Why Roseburg Oregon as the birthplace of this business?
This is a story about John and Ann Gridley's travels.
In
1989 and 1990 we made several trips between our jobs in
Orange County and Ann's family's residence in Bellevue,
Washington. On a trip back to southern California in September
of 1990, as we passed by Roseburg on the freeway, we thought
that this might be a nice place to move to in five years
or so.
Well,
when John got back to work that next Monday morning, he
became a victim of peace (that's what someone called it
when an aerospace software engineer faced the end of the
Cold War and lost his job). With 60-day notice in hand,
we decided to move to Roseburg in November of 1990 without
ever having seen the city except for its freeway exits.
John
had previously sold insurance for three years, having
been first licensed in New York State in 1961, and decided
that it would be fun to do it again. He started the agency
on February 1, 1991 while Ann went to work for the then
Douglas National Bank as Marketing Director to put food
on the table. By May of 1991, John decided to specialize
solely in health insurance because it was in so much turmoil
and he liked challenges.
Ann
joined the agency in 1995, and since then, it has grown
to a team of over 15 people. In 1999 we changed the name
from John Gridley Agency to First Choice Health Insurance,
incorporated in Oregon.
